The K1 children's inquiry into How We Express Ourselves has led them into an exploration of mark making. We have loved listening in to their play as the children make marks using a wide range of materials. They have shown determination and a sense of purpose as they have represented their thinking. As the teaching team refelcted we thought about the words of Loris Malaguzzi, the educator who was so crucial in the development the Reggio Emilia approach to learning, when he spoke about the act of drawing. The importance of remembering that aside from the pleasure of drawing there is a a rhythmic-temporal pleasure, a spatial pleasure and a self-identifying pleasure.
