At Abacus children spend time both indoors and outside in the playground. Even in the rain we encourage children to wear appropriate clothing and splash in our mud kitchen or play with the carefully planned water-related activities on offer.
During indoor time children usually have the opportunity to participate in a range of different play activities designed to develop their understanding and skills. Our teaching uses an inquiry methodology where children are supported to ask questions, make predictions, solve problems and find answers for themselves.
During the day children may participate in:
- Whole class circle times, songs and stories
- Small group projects and activities
- Individual or group free child initiated play activities
- Individual conferencing or learning with a teacher
At Abacus, children enjoy a balance of indoor and outdoor play. Rain or shine, we encourage our children to put on the appropriate clothing and embrace nature, whether that means splashing in our mud kitchen or exploring carefully planned water-related activities.
Indoors, children engage in a variety of play activities designed to enhance their understanding and skills. Our inquiry-based methodology supports them in asking questions, making predictions, solving problems, and discovering answers independently. Throughout the day, children participate in:
- Whole class circle times filled with songs and stories
- Small group projects and collaborative activities
- Individual or group child-initiated play
- One-on-one conferencing or learning with a teacher
This diverse approach ensures that every child’s day is rich with laughter, exploration, and meaningful learning experiences.
