Our Inspiring Learning Environment

We believe that a dynamic and engaging learning environment is essential for nurturing curiosity and engagement. We create spaces that encourage independence and exploration as well as fostering a sense of wonder about the world. Take a look at some of our learning spaces:

The Front Garden - Space to Run, Plant and Explore Nature

At Abacus Kindergarten, our outdoor setting serves as a vibrant classroom where children learn to nurture the environment around them. In our beautiful garden, children have the opportunity to care for plants and observe the diverse wildlife. They can run, build, and explore the wonders of nature, engaging with insects and other creatures that inhabit our space.

Our hands-on activities include planting vegetables and fruits, allowing children to experience the joy of growing their own food. This immersive outdoor experience not only fosters a deep connection with nature but also enhances their learning through play and exploration.

Outdoor Playground: A World of Physical Exploration and Collabrotion

We are fortunate to have a beautiful outdoor playground nestled among trees and lush greenery, providing the perfect setting for children to develop essential gross motor skills. Our playground features a sandpit, water play area, and ample space for running, climbing, swinging, and riding bikes.

Through engaging in these physical activities, children enhance their coordination, balance, and strength while having fun. Our playground encourages collaboration as children work together during group games and adventures, fostering teamwork and social skills.

We believe in the power of experiential learning, seamlessly integrating maths, language, and other essential skills into outdoor play. Here, children engage in exciting and challenging activities that not only enhance their learning experience but also cultivate a lifelong love for the outdoors. At Abacus, we create an environment where play leads to discovery, growth, and meaningful connections with nature and each other.

Our Mud Kitchen

Our mud kitchen is a centerpiece of imaginative play, inviting children to explore their creativity and engage in sensory experiences. This unique outdoor space allows children to dig, mix, and create using natural materials, fostering hands-on learning through play.

As they scoop and stir, children develop fine motor skills and coordination while experimenting with textures and scents. The mud kitchen also encourages collaboration, as little chefs work together to create delicious “dishes” and share their culinary adventures.

This interactive environment promotes imaginative thinking and problem-solving as children engage in role play and storytelling. Plus, it provides a wonderful opportunity for them to connect with nature, embracing the joys of messy play. At Abacus, our mud kitchen is more than just a play area—it's a space where creativity flourishes and lifelong memories are made!

Inside Our Learning Spaces

At Abacus Kindergarten, our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to cultivate curiosity, independence and a diverse range of skills. Each learning space fosters active participation, allowing children to explore and discover in an environment that encourages creativity and collaboration.

Our role play areas invite children to step into different roles and scenarios, transforming their learning experiences into vibrant engagements. Through imaginative play, they enhance their understanding of real-world situations, develop empathy, and strengthen social and communication skills.

Various learning stations throughout the classroom provide opportunities for hands-on exploration in maths, language and science, encouraging children to investigate concepts through experiments and problem-solving activities. Light, airy spaces balance calm corners with bustling role play areas, promoting a dynamic environment where children can learn about the world around them.

Where possible we use natural and real-world items as play materials to encourage sustainability practices and to foster appreciation of the natural world.

At Abacus, we believe that a nurturing and stimulating classroom is key to inspiring young minds and fostering a lifelong love of learning across all disciplines.

Our Library

Nestled on the back playground, our library is a vibrant hub filled with a diverse collection of children's books and resources that reflect the interests and backgrounds of our learners. Regular visits with teaching teams allow children to develop essential information literacy skills, including selecting books and distinguishing between fiction and non-fiction.

We encourage families to share their favourite book suggestions, particularly those that represent different cultures, enriching our library’s collection. Students have the opportunity to borrow books weekly to take home, while classes also utilise these resources for engaging in-school activities. At Abacus Kindergarten, we believe that fostering a love for reading is key to inspiring literacy skills.
