At Abacus, we cherish the moments that bring our community together. Our school celebrations are vibrant events where parents are warmly invited to join in the festivities and engage with their children in meaningful activities. These occasions not only strengthen our school spirit but also create wonderful memories that last a lifetime. Here are a few of the festivals we celebrate together at Abacus.
Christmas
As the holiday season approaches, our Christmas celebrations are filled with joy and excitement. Parents are invited to the school for a shared learning day where we collaborate on activities such as decorating our Christmas tree, making cards and Christmas baking, creating a festive atmosphere for everyone. The highlight of the season is our Christmas performances, where students sing and dance, showcasing their talents and spreading holiday cheer.
Diwali
Celebrate the festival of lights with us! Families can participate in Rangoli pattern art, sharing stories and traditions from our Indian community. This enchanting tradition fosters creativity and collaboration while highlighting our cultural diversity.

Chinese New Year
Join us in celebrating Chinese New Year with a variety of exciting activities! Families can engage in dumpling-making sessions, calligraphy, blossom tree painting, Chinese drumming and lion dancing. This fun and interactive experience brings families closer while embracing this cherished tradition.
K2 Graduation
A particularly special occasion is our K2 End of School Graduation Singing and Sharing Day. Parents are encouraged to join us in celebrating the achievements of our K2 students as they perform songs and share their experiences from the year. This heartfelt event marks an important milestone in their educational journey.
We look forward to celebrating these joyous occasions with you, as we create lasting memories and foster a strong sense of community at Abacus!
Our Sharing and Celebration of Learning Days are valuable opportunities for you to see firsthand how your child thrives at Abacus. Held once a term, these special days invite parents into our school to engage in play alongside their children.
Our teaching teams thoughtfully plan enriching experiences that allow children to showcase the skills they’ve developed and the concepts they’ve mastered. During these sessions, teachers are available to discuss learning intentions and provide insights into your child’s progress.
Our Winter Holiday Celebration of Learning offers children a chance to build their confidence as they share festive songs and dances. Sharing days also foster connections among families, making it easy to plan playdates and build a supportive community.
At Abacus Kindergarten, we hold a deep appreciation for parents as their child's first educators. We recognise that the foundation of a child's learning begins at home, and we are committed to supporting families in this vital role. Our aim is to empower parents to engage in meaningful conversations with their children, asking relevant questions that stimulate curiosity and foster a love of learning.
We encourage families to use their home languages to enrich their children's understanding of the concepts covered in our curriculum. This practice not only helps children grasp new ideas more effectively but also strengthens their cultural identity and connection to their heritage.
As part of our commitment to working with parents as partners, Abacus Kindergarten offers a range of information sessions throughout the year. These sessions are designed to equip families with the tools and knowledge they need to support their children's learning journey. Sessions are delivered by our dedicated teaching staff as well as by outside providers, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives and expertise.
We have hosted several information sessions, and we are always eager to hear suggestions for future topics that families would like to explore. Some of the sessions we've held include:
- New K1 Information Evening: An introduction for new parents about our Kindergarten program and how they can get involved.
- Parent Orientation Evenings: Sessions aimed at familiarising parents with our teaching philosophy and practices.
- Learning English As An Additional Language: Support for families with children learning English, focusing on strategies to enhance language acquisition.
- An Introduction to the PYP (Primary Years Programme): An overview of the PYP curriculum framework and how it benefits young learners.
- Let’s Get Them Talking!: Techniques for encouraging communication and language development in children.
- Self-management Skills: Strategies to help children develop independence and responsibility in their learning.
We believe that collaboration between parents and educators creates an important support system for children, enabling them to thrive both at home and in our Kindergarten setting.
At Abacus, we believe that experiential learning is an essential part of education. Our school trips provide students and their families with exciting opportunities to explore, learn, and bond outside the classroom.

At Abacus, we warmly invite parents to volunteer in our school to enhance our children's learning experiences. Whether on a regular weekly basis, once the children have settled into their routines, or for special events and learning activities, your involvement is greatly appreciated.
One popular way for parents to contribute is through cooking, as we always welcome extra hands in the kitchen. Additionally, many parents come in to read with the children in both English and Mandarin. We encourage the use of home languages as well for our parent helpers, it is so important that the children hear the wonderful diversity of our community. Our annual Book Week is a fantastic opportunity for families to come into school to share stories in many languages.

We also value the unique skills and talents parents bring to our community. Parents have shared their expertise by discussing their professions, leading craft activities, or even performing puppet shows for the children.
Volunteers can work with small groups of children, and we provide clear expectations for interactions, along with important safeguarding information through an online session that parents watch before coming to school.

The children love engaging with different visitors, and we value the fresh perspectives that parents bring to our school community. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference in the children's education.
