Our teaching teams thoughtfully plan enriching experiences that allow children to showcase the skills they’ve developed and the concepts they’ve mastered. During these sessions, teachers are available to discuss learning intentions and provide insights into your child’s progress. 

Our Winter Holiday Celebration of Learning offers children a chance to build their confidence as they share festive songs and dances. Sharing days also foster connections among families, making it easy to plan playdates and build a supportive community. 

At Abacus Kindergarten, we hold a deep appreciation for parents as their child's first educators. We recognise that the foundation of a child's learning begins at home, and we are committed to supporting families in this vital role. Our aim is to empower parents to engage in meaningful conversations with their children, asking relevant questions that stimulate curiosity and foster a love of learning.

We encourage families to use their home languages to enrich their children's understanding of the concepts covered in our curriculum. This practice not only helps children grasp new ideas more effectively but also strengthens their cultural identity and connection to their heritage. 

As part of our commitment to working with parents as partners, Abacus Kindergarten offers a range of information sessions throughout the year. These sessions are designed to equip families with the tools and knowledge they need to support their children's learning journey. Sessions are delivered by our dedicated teaching staff as well as by outside providers, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives and expertise.

We have hosted several information sessions, and we are always eager to hear suggestions for future topics that families would like to explore. Some of the sessions we've held include:

• New K1 Information Evening: An introduction for new parents about our Kindergarten program and how they can get involved.
• Parent Orientation Evenings: Sessions aimed at familiarising parents with our teaching philosophy and practices.
• Learning English As An Additional Language: Support for families with children learning English, focusing on strategies to enhance language acquisition.
• An Introduction to the PYP (Primary Years Programme): An overview of the PYP curriculum framework and how it benefits young learners.
• Let’s Get Them Talking!: Techniques for encouraging communication and language development in children.
• Self-management Skills: Strategies to help children develop independence and responsibility in their learning.

We believe that collaboration between parents and educators creates an important support system for children, enabling them to thrive both at home and in our Kindergarten setting. 

At Abacus, we warmly invite parents to volunteer in our school to enhance our children's learning experiences. Whether on a regular weekly basis, once the children have settled into their routines, or for special events and learning activities, your involvement is greatly appreciated.

One popular way for parents to contribute is through cooking, as we always welcome extra hands in the kitchen. Additionally, many parents come in to read with the children in both English and Mandarin. We encourage the use of home languages as well for our parent helpers, it is so important that the children hear the wonderful diversity of our community. Our annual Book Week is a fantastic opportunity for families to come into school to share stories in many languages.

We also value the unique skills and talents parents bring to our community. Parents have shared their expertise by discussing their professions, leading craft activities, or even performing puppet shows for the children.    Volunteers can work with small groups of children, and we provide clear expectations for interactions, along with important safeguarding information through an online session that parents watch before coming to school.

The children love engaging with different visitors, and we value the fresh perspectives that parents bring to our school community. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference in the children's education.
